One hundred years of Blanc & Fischer

In 2025, the Blanc & Fischer family holding celebrates an extra-special anniversary: Over the past 100 years, two start-ups by courageous businessmen have developed into a globally active group of companies. Together, we take a look back over the company’s milestones – from its exciting beginnings in the 1920s to the digitalisation and automation of today. As a subsidiary, the B.PRO Group helps to shape this success every day.

Letter from Heinrich Blanc to Karl Fischer, 20 February 1931.

An exchange of correspondence with consequences

The shared history of Blanc & Fischer begins with a postcard written on 20 February 1931. Heinrich Blanc, owner of Blanc & Co. metal goods factory in Oberderdingen, writes to Karl Fischer and his company E.G.O. in Oberweiler: Could he make radiators for his hot water tanks? The subsequent meeting is the start of a collaborative partnership that is set to make history.

Years earlier, the two businessmen had each already demonstrated their outstanding pioneering spirit: in 1925, 28-year-old Heinrich Blanc realises that water troughs for the Baden coal-fired oven industry are often in short supply. Without further ado, he registers a company himself – and Blanc & Co is born. The company specialises entirely in the production of the coveted containers used to heat water in the kitchen at the time, and is soon able to supply them in record time and at unbeatable prices. Other products such as hot water bottles and kettles were added to the range shortly afterwards.

At the same time, Karl Fischer is also shaking up the market with his young company E.G.O., which offered appliances to make electric cooking affordable for a wider population for the first time.

Shortly after their first contact in 1931, Heinrich Blanc became a partner in Fischers Elektro-Gerätebau GmbH – today one of the world's largest manufacturers of components and control electronics for household appliances. From then on, the brilliant technician and inventor Heinrich Blanc and the ingenious businessman and inventor Karl Fischer worked closely together with their companies. E.G.O. relocates its headquarters to Oberderdingen, the current headquarters of Blanc & Fischer family holding.

During the reign of National Socialism, Blanc & Co. and E.G.O. participated in the war economy. You can find more information on the period between 1933 and 1945 here.

The dawn of a new era

The end of the war initially marked the end of a significant growth phase for both companies. As the postwar economic boom gathered pace, Blanc & Co., now known under the brand name BLANCO, turned its focus to corrosion-resistant steel as the material of the future.

With the production of food transport trolleys and products for the commercial catering industry, new markets are opened up – the division from which today's B.PRO Group later emerges.

In the 1960s, things go from strength to strength: The commercial kitchen and catering sector is systematically expanded in the following years, and from 1961, containers for food distribution are added to the range. Building on its outstanding expertise in stainless-steel processing, BLANCO taps into further areas of business. The production of medical baths forms the basis for the later Medical Business Unit. The establishment of in-house toolmaking sets the course for the Industrial Business Unit.

The portfolio grows

Complete solutions for complex industry challenges – this holistic approach, which is still so important today, became an important part of the company's philosophy as early as the mid-1970s. From this point onwards, BLANCO increasingly supplies complete systems for commercial kitchens as well as for medical requirements in clinics.

The system concept also led to the development of the Domino mobile food serving range in 1988 – a forerunner of the B.PRO BASIC LINE, which has since developed into a modern classic in its own right. Plate stackers and dish conveyors round off the coordinated portfolio from 1990. Such a well thought-out product policy reaps its reward: BLANCO Großverpflegung – what is B.PRO Catering Solutions today – becomes one of the leading providers in Europe.

On its own two feet

New millennium, new products: BLANCO demonstrates its innovative strength with the RECALDO CLASSICO induction trolley with convection cooling.

From 2007, BLANCO concentrates on the B2C business with sinks and mixer taps for private households. The B2B division is continued by BLANCO CS as a new, independent company with the Catering, Medical and Industrial units (now ENOXX Engineering). BLANCO CS becomes BLANCO Professional, and then finally B.PRO from 2021.

Following the separation of the Medical unit and the acquisition of automation specialist BRIMATO, B.PRO is more focussed than ever. While ENOXX manufactures deep-drawn parts and assemblies made of stainless steel for industry, B.PRO Catering Solutions focuses entirely on food logistics in all its facets.

Driving the transformation

The desire for more efficient processes in care catering. Daycare centres and schools that are increasingly faced with the issue of all-day catering. Working from home, a shortage of skilled labour or changing eating habits following the coronavirus pandemic: Like the 1920s, the 2020s are a time full of challenges, but also new opportunities.

Just like its founding fathers back then, the Blanc & Fischer family holding company continues to provide the answers to all of these pressing questions today – in the form of B.PRO Catering Solutions. Its focus on automation, digitalisation and targeted portfolio expansion will make the company a strong partner in commercial catering in the future.

"Heinrich Blanc ensured that new ideas were always realised in stainless steel. Karl Fischer realised what could be heated with electrical energy. One was inventing products, the other was finding solutions. Both were outstanding in their field."
