"We are enablers"
When it comes to complex projects, the B.PRO Projects department springs into action, offering customised solutions in the area of food serving and food distribution. In this interview, Head of Department Martin Braun explains the specific advantages this has for customers.
With pleasure. I specialise in professional food serving and food distribution systems, I've been at the company since 2006 and have been head of the Projects department since 2016. There are nine of us in total who look after the interests of our business partners and customers.
What exactly is the role of the Projects department?
We operate in three areas. On the one hand, we focus on food serving systems, for example in company restaurants or schools. On the other hand, we are also experts in food distribution. For example, we develop solutions for hospitals or retirement homes that include tray portioning or food transport to the ward. The third business area is automation on portioning conveyors.
When does a project become a case for your department?
The department always comes into play for more complex projects, such as the design of complete food serving or food distribution systems. We support specialist planners, specialist dealers and end customers. In all cases, we provide intensive support based on our expertise in the field of catering solutions.
What does this support involve?
We provide support in the design, equipment and implementation of projects. Standard products from the portfolio, such as our popular BASIC LINE modular food serving system, are often customised so that the individual modules fit perfectly into the overall solution. Whether customised heights or lengths, non-standard features or other special requirements, we try to meet the needs of our business partners in the best possible way. In short, you could say we are enablers.
What qualities do your contact persons offer customers?
As well as traditional area sales managers, we have three system sales managers or system consultants in the Projects department. They specialise in the three areas of activity of the "Projects" department – food serving systems, food distribution systems and automation on the food distribution conveyor. These experts have in-depth knowledge. They accompany specialist planners or end customers, analysing their particular challenges and developing a customised solution concept. This is where I see clear potential for differentiation.

Can you give a best-case example?
We recently implemented a new canteen concept for a hospital in North Rhine-Westphalia. This facility has to cater for between 300 and 400 diners every day, including staff and ambulatory patients. We submitted an offer via the specialist retailer and were commissioned with the project. The main focus was on snack concepts, but we also integrated a front cooking system and a salad bar. Throughout the entire project, we were able to use the visualisation in our 3D Configurator to keep the end customer informed with realistic insights, highlight problem areas and suggest alternative scenarios. Our team accompanied the project all the way from its initial conception to installation.
What challenges do you solve for customers?
When working with end customers in particular, it is important to clarify their actual needs and problems first, as often, people are not even fully aware of what these are themselves. Our task is to analyse these needs and ultimately create customer benefits.
Our message, which may sound somewhat bold, is: We understand our customers and their challenges, and we don't just do any old thing, we do the right thing.
